One last card from the China series! Now we feature one of the most well-recognized icons of Chinese culture – the fan! You can check out a bit more on fans in one of my previous posts: I’d like to point out, though, that the history of the fan in China dates back to much later than what I mentioned in that post, since my post talks about hand fans. It actually wasn’t until about 1,000 years after the birth of the fan that fans were used to cool people. Until then, they were (in the case of the Shanhan) used as attachments for horse-drawn carriages to block the sunlight, or (in the case of the Zhanghan) used as a decorative piece.
