Take a look at this Official Postcrossing card from Nevada! Today we’re going back in time to 1986, when this postcard was printed – you can probably tell just from looking at the photos! This is a multiview of the Universal Studios Tour in California, which consists of a tram ride throughout some of the different film sets featured in popular TV shows. The tours began in 1964 with the use of “Glamour Trams”, which you can spot in a few places on this card. They would take guests through a huge movie lot that featured time periods and locations of all types, and would bring them to see some of the most well-known icons of movies, like Jaws, King Kong, and Jurassic Park’s Dilophosaurus, that last of which sprays its patrons with venom! Oh, wait, my sources claim it’s not actually real venom. Gotcha. Naturally, the tour has evolved, and now instead of a live tour guide, Jimmy Fallon serves as a video host to supplement the experience. Some of the sets that you can check out on the tour include those from Back to the Future, War of the Worlds (one of my very first PG-13 films!), and a favorite of mine – How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the one with Jim Carrey)! On this card, you can see one of the very first attractions of the tour, which is the mansion from Alfred Hitchock’s Psycho (the Bates Mansion). Never watched Psycho before but I know not-so-good things happen in Hitchcock films. So maybe I’ll pass on visiting the mansion and just get another venom shower from the Dilophosaurus instead. Thank you so much for sending me this postcard!
