Here is an Official Postcrossing card from Japan! This card is a very cute and subtly sad depiction of oyakodon, a Japanese rice bowl dish which includes chicken and egg and is usually topped with scallions. It’s known as a “parent-and-child donburi” (donburi = bowl), and you’ve probably already figured out why it gets that name. Back when I had my 2015 Tokyo Postcrossing meetup, one of the Postcrossers told me about oyakodon for the first time and mentioned this alternate name. I remember giving one of those acknowledging “ah, okay” remarks… followed by a delayed “aww oh my word I GET IT!” That being said, I had oyakodon later that day and it was absolutely “ooishi” (which means “delicious” in Japanese). While it’s definitely not my most controversial meal to date, the thought of consuming a family reunion is rather eerie. Won’t stop me from having it again though! Thanks a bunch for sending me this postcard!
