Oh snap it’s Astro Boy, zoomin’ his way over from California! Astro Boy is Japanese franchise dating back to the 1950s when it was serialized as a manga. It’s since been adapted into three anime series (1963, 1980 and 2003), and a CGI film in 2009 (which many of you may have seen or heard of). While there are differences in each medium that the story is conveyed through, the general premise remains the same. It takes place in a futuristic world with robots and such, one of which is Astro Boy, an android created by Dr. Tenma (not to be confused with the surgeon Dr. Kenzo Tenma from “Monster”) to replace his son who passed away. The variations take place from there, but in most (if not all) cases, Astro Boy ends up fighting evil in some form. Some of his powers include hearing that’s 1,000x more sensitive than that of humans, lasers installed in his fingers, jets installed in his feet, and even guns installed in his butt cheeks! I have yet to give Astro Boy a try, but I plan to watch at least one of the series! And maybe install my own butt guns at some point. That’d be something to brag about, eh? *Writes “butt guns” on his Christmas list* Thank you tons for this awesome postcard, Steve!
