Just another card showing me at my latest trip to the DMV. I was absolutely in love with this one – as a self-proclaimed Martian myself, this one is quite dear to me! I got this over Official Postcrossing from Washington! You gotta love everything about this card – the name, the address, the picture… everything! And as astronomically cool as the front of this card is, the back talks about the Roswell Incident of July 1947! After a thunderstorm, a rancher came across the mysterious remains of some sort of crashed “flying disc” in his pasture. The military at Roswell Army Air Field shortly after collected the debris and stated that it was a fallen weather balloon. For many years this incident was dismissed as such… until the 1980s, when the story was rekindled and conspiracy theories about extraterrestrial involvement began to arise. People started stepping forward as witnesses, with skeptics trying to refute them. Additionally, some people claimed that the military was actually behind a cover-up of the incident and was actually more deeply involved in it. Basically, lots and lots of debating going on here, and to this day it is still something full of uncertainty. The incident even gave birth to the creation of the International UFO Museum & Research Center, which was created to inform the public about the incident (though not particularly sway it one way or the other). I know I make light of my Martian origins but this story is FASCINATING! Just hoping that my comrades who visit here fly safely from now on. Thank you so much for this awesome postcard, Dawn! And hey, no wonder people wanna storm Area 51 so badly…
