This lovely maxicard came to me from Australia through Official Postcrossing! For those who may not know, a maxicard – abbreviated from “maximum card” – is a card that has a postage stamp matching what’s on it, and the stamp is placed on the front. In this case, the maxicard I received commemorates the bicentenary of Australia’s founding, which happened in 1788. By that, I mean the year in which the first ships arrived – Australia became a sovereign nation in 1901. This particular stamp was issued as a joint issue in both Sydney, Australia, and Washington DC, USA. As you can imagine, the koala represents Australia, and the bald eagle represents the States. Such great friends! Didn’t realize that Australia was so new though, relatively speaking! Thank you so much for the awesome maxicard, Andrew!
